A02 Research how professional artists/designer present,promote,manage and sell their work

For this section of the unit I am going to look at how an established artist promotes and sells their work. This will again help give me an insight into how i can possibly promote my own work.

The Artist: Tracey Emin



I have chosen to look at the work of famous British artist Tracey Emin. Tracey Emin is often considered part of the Brit art movement, along with Damien Hurst. Much of Emin's fame comes from her ability to divide art lovers between those who love her work and those who hate it.
Her most famous work includes a tent with the names of everyone she had slept with finely stitched within it, and an unmade bed covered with condoms and dirty underwear.
From reading about Emin it seems that her own personal notoriety does more to promote her work than what she actually does, this is backed up by the fact that she really came to public attention for a drunken foul mouthed appearance on a tv show and not winning the turner prize as she already had done.
Since rising in fame Emin has sold work to many famous people such as George Michaels and Elton John.
Emin works in a variet of ways that include needle work, installation and video.
Tracey Emin shows me that confidence in your own work and being as colourful as your own artwork is vital to success as an artist. You need to make people take notice of you.
